8 Tech Tools for Teachers

These tech tools have made my teacher life so much easier!!! A huge thank you to my love, Jeremy, who has not only made me fall in love with him but also with the idea of tinkering. But I do digress, I’ll give a quick explanation about why I love and use these eight tech tools every day.

Two indispensable tech tools are headphones and a microphone. They are essential in reducing background noise and as a result my instructional videos sound crisp and clear. It also reduces or eliminates audio feedback during my virtual meetings with staff and students.

Another must have tech tool, and my favorite, is a second computer monitor. How many window tabs do you usually have open? Me, usually about 10-20, and it gets out of control to be honest. If you are like me, a computer monitor will become your best friend. It allows me to split my tabs from my laptop unto my monitor–just make sure to change the display settings to the “extend” option–and it is very useful in more ways than one. For example, I keep my grade book tab on my laptop while I move my Google Classroom tab unto my monitor. As I finish scoring assignments, I input the grade and move on to a different assignment or class. Grading gets done faster, and it’s magical!!!

Next, I have a 4 port USB , a VGA adapter, and a VGA cable. A multi USB port enables you to connect multiple devices; for example, I use it to connect my microphone, monitor, VGA adapter, and iPhone charger. The other two tools, the VGA adapter and VGA cable, allows my laptop and monitor to communicate with each other.

Finally, I also have a wireless mouse and a ring light kit. The former minimizes clutter on my desk while the latter provides good lighting when recording videos and when having virtual meetings. You can see all these tools in my work area in the picture above. Let me know if you already have some of these tech tools in your toolbox or any you think I should buy 🙂 Happy Tinkering!!!

I'm an experienced high school English teacher sharing best practices to inform, to inspire and to reflect on my own craft. Love implementing new ideas and efficient systems that make teaching manageable. Teachers need a surmountable amount of support to help them survive, and every year comes with its own challenges. When I am not teaching or creating, I love hiking, running, anything outdoorsy! I am also a mother of two boys, one in college the other in his last year of middle school. Hope you can utilize what I create and share on this platform.
